Paul Brannigan
Paul Brannigan is a British music journalist and biographer whose reporting has appeared in Rolling Stone, Classic Rock, Q, and Metal Hammer. Into the Black, written with fellow journalist Ian Winwood, follows Metallica from the breakthrough of the Black Album through Load, Reload, the departure of Jason Newsted, the documentary Some Kind of Monster, and the band’s later return with Death Magnetic. Da Capo published the book as the second part of the pair’s detailed Metallica history, following Birth School Metallica Death. Brannigan’s access to the group and its circle supplied interview material and firsthand touring and studio context. His other major music biography, This Is a Call: The Life and Times of Dave Grohl, applies the same long-form journalistic approach to the Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters founder.
