Cut up a politician's own sentences, reorder the lines, change nothing else, and you have Rob Sears's method. He applied it to tweets and transcripts for The Beautiful Poetry of Donald Trump in 2017. Elon Musk's Billionaire School, which Canongate brought out in October 2022, drops the found text for a deadpan self-improvement course: seventy-four lessons in acquiring the wealth and reach of a mid-sized country, drawn from Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg. Sears also assembled Vladimir Putin: Life Coach, illustrated by his brother Tom Sears, and Choose Your Own Apocalypse with Kim Jong-un and Friends. His other work has been in advertising, as a creative director. His comedy and short fiction have appeared in McSweeney's, the Guardian, the New Statesman and Index on Censorship, and with Tom he wrote an Audible sitcom cast with Kevin Eldon, Felicity Montagu and Mitch Benn. He lives in Finsbury Park, north London.
