Shveta Thakrar
Shveta Thakrar writes fantasy shaped by Hindu mythology, South Asian culture, folklore, and a fascination with beauty and magic. Her short fiction has appeared in magazines and anthologies, and she plays the harp as well as writing. HarperTeen introduced Star Daughter in 2020 as her debut teen novel. Sheetal Mistry, the daughter of a human father and a star mother, must seek help from her celestial relatives after an accident. A competition among star families then places her voice, loyalties, and human relationships under pressure. Thakrar builds the fantasy through music, cosmic courts, and mythic imagery while keeping Sheetal’s friendship and family conflicts at its center. The novel became a finalist for the Andre Norton Nebula Award. It also opened the connected Night Market Triptych, followed by The Dream Runners and Divining the Leaves. Across that sequence, Thakrar develops a shared universe while allowing each book to focus on a different young woman navigating magic, duty, and self-definition.
