Sophie Gonzales

Only Mostly Devastated moves Grease to a North Carolina high school, with Danny as a boy who spent the summer falling for another boy and then finds him in the corridor with a girlfriend and a reputation to protect.

Gonzales is Australian and writes queer teenagers whose problems are ordinary, closeted anxiety, sick relatives, friendship groups, rather than tragedies arranged for a lesson.

Perfect on Paper and Never Ever Getting Back Together followed, and the reality television one is funnier than it has any need to be.
