Tara M. Stringfellow
Tara M. Stringfellow brings experience in poetry and law to her fiction. Memphis, her debut novel, became a national bestseller, was chosen for Read with Jenna and appeared on the 2023 Women’s Prize for Fiction longlist. Stringfellow describes the book as a multigenerational Black Southern coming-of-age story in which a girl’s love of art and her city changes her family. The novel draws its form around several generations of women and treats Memphis itself as a defining presence. Stringfellow completed an MFA in both poetry and prose at Northwestern, becoming the program’s first graduate to do so. Her writing has appeared in Apogee Journal, Minerva Rising, Jet Fuel Review and other literary publications. She later published the poetry collection Magic Enuff.
