Thomas L. Friedman
Thomas L. Friedman built his career as a foreign-affairs reporter and columnist, winning three Pulitzer Prizes for work that connected international events with larger political and economic patterns. Longitudes and Attitudes gathers columns written around the September 11 attacks and supplements them with a diary of reporting trips across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Farrar, Straus and Giroux first issued the collection in 2002, with Anchor publishing a paperback in 2003. Friedman uses the paired formats to revisit immediate reactions, conversations abroad, and arguments about globalization, American policy, and cultural misunderstanding. The book therefore works both as a record of newspaper commentary and as a retrospective account of how those ideas changed through travel and response.
