Thomas Rid
Active Measures traces disinformation from the nineteen twenties to the present through archives in several languages, and argues that the technique is old, that democracies have used it too, and that the internet made it cheap rather than new. Rid teaches at Johns Hopkins and gave evidence to the Senate committee investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election. Cyber War Will Not Take Place is the earlier and deliberately provoking book, whose case is that almost everything filed under cyberwar is sabotage, espionage or subversion wearing a more exciting name.
