Umme Pritam
Umme Pritam is a Bangladeshi writer from Dhaka whose debut novel places friendship, grief, family pressure, and romantic uncertainty within a contemporary young-person narrative. Eiliyah appeared in 2022 and follows its title character through emotional upheaval, betrayal, and changing relationships. Pritam began the manuscript in October 2021 and completed it within about five months, developing Eiliyah partly from qualities she associated with her mother. The novel's focus is intimate rather than panoramic: its drama grows from the protagonist's choices, close bonds, and effort to understand loss. As Pritam's first novel, Eiliyah places friendship and personal growth alongside a contemporary romance. Its character-centered design keeps the narrative close to emotional choices rather than treating romance as an isolated plot. Pritam's early career is therefore closely tied to this young woman's development, which introduces her voice through an attempt to rebuild trust and direction after painful changes.
