Vera Kurian
Kurian holds a doctorate in psychology and researches health behaviour, and Never Saw Me Coming puts seven diagnosed psychopaths into a university study on the same campus, one of whom is there to kill a fellow participant. The clinical detail is real and the joke is that the study protocols keep getting in the way of the murder. A Step Past Darkness is a small-town horror about six teenagers and something they saw in 1995. She works in Washington on public health research alongside the fiction.
