Mary Burton has written more than forty crime and romantic suspense novels, most of them set in Virginia and the wider American South, after a career in marketing and a degree from Hollins. Never Look Back sits inside her Criminal Profiler sequence. Burn You Twice opened a Montana strand in 2020: a Philadelphia detective goes back to Missoula ten years after escaping a fire, timed to the release of the man jailed for setting it. Three of her books reached the final round of the RITA awards run by Romance Writers of America, in 2005, 2015 and 2019, without taking the prize. Under a second name, Mary Ellen Taylor, she writes contemporary women's fiction.
