James Patterson with Chris Tebbetts puts out 1st Case as a fast paced introduction to a possible new series. Angela Hoot is a Harvard computer science student who gets kicked out of grad school and ends up in the FBI’s cybercrime unit, working her first real investigation alongside agents who don’t quite know what to do with her.
The case involves a string of disappearances and an app that may or may not be the connection.
Patterson’s house style is in full effect. Short chapters, fast scene cuts, dialogue that moves the plot rather than dwelling on character.
Tebbetts brings some of the YA-friendly voice that he’s used in the Middle School series, which makes the book feel younger than a typical Patterson thriller. Worth picking up if you want a quick airport read. Not the place to start if you’ve never read him.
