About this book
Edna Conway counts the days she must spend away from her mother as winter approaches and school arrangements change. She and her sister Celia are to stay with Aunt Elizabeth and Uncle Justus during the school week, returning home on Fridays. Amy Ella Blanchard builds this children's novel around the small concerns that fill Edna's world: a stern aunt, visits from her friend Dorothy, favorite foods and the comfort of familiar dolls.
Cousin Ben brings wordplay and practical help into these everyday affairs. In a snowy episode with Edna and Nettie, he takes charge of making muffins and coffee while the girls set the table. Their conversation turns breakfast into a lesson about hospitality and making guests comfortable. The story offers readers family dialogue, school friendships and a close view of how children weigh kindness, rules and their own wishes.
