Allison B. Collins writes inspirational western romance, and A Family for the Rancher works the standard ingredients with a steady hand. The widow brings her young children to a small Texas town for a fresh start. The rancher next door is dealing with his own losses and isn’t looking for new ones. The town is small enough that everybody knows their business and willing enough to comment on it.
The faith element runs through the book without being overbearing. Both characters have their own doubts and their own slow returns to a faith they had let lapse.
The ranch detail rings true. Collins or her sources clearly know cattle.
For readers who follow Pamela Tracy or Linda Goodnight, this is in similar territory. Cleaner than mainstream contemporary romance, with real emotional stakes and a satisfying resolution. Comfort reading in the best sense for the audience that wants this register.
