About this book
A History of Bohemian Literature, by Francis Lützow, belongs to a series called Short Histories of the Literatures of the World. The book retells a legend in which Prince Ulrick, crossbow in hand, wishes to shoot a stag, and drops the crossbow directly he notices a cross between its antlers. In that legend, Prokop miraculously transforms into exquisite wine the water which the prince is drinking, and the prince tells Prokop he will build a monastery on the spot where they are standing.
One work the book discusses has a second division that deals with The Bark of Antichrist, the foolish and misguided people who occupy it, and the weighty reasons for flying from that bark. The book adds that, like so many Bohemian works of this period, the Bark treats mainly of Antichrist. The book also calls Dr. Goll's Čechy a Prusy a work of great and fascinating interest that deals with the little-known relations between Bohemia and Prussia in the Middle Ages.
