An account of the Lung-shan culture places its emergence in the plains of eastern China and derives its name from the scene of the principal discoveries. The pottery is described as polished on the outside, never painted and mostly undecorated, with incised geometrical patterns as its most elaborate decoration. The account describes a long-settled population of agriculturists whose mud houses stood in villages surrounded by mud walls.
The political account describes foreigners placing themselves under the Uighurs living in China to conduct business under the political protection of the Uighur embassy. The T'ang government decides to seize the capital accumulated by these foreigners when the Uighurs no longer count. The text describes hopes of remedying financial troubles that were partly due to a shortage of metal for minting.
