About this book

A History of the Old English Letter Foundries is a book by Talbot Baines Reed. The text promises a further table, compiled from specimen-books of the 18th century, showing what have been the names of the corresponding bodies in the foundries of other nations. The author thanks Mr. Sam. Timmins for placing at his disposal much of the information embodied in a chapter on Baskerville.

The author also thanks Messrs. Enschedé and Sons, of Haarlem, for specimens of some of their most curious and ancient types. The text mentions historical specimens of the venerable Caslon Foundry. The text says that schemes to arrive at a standard of uniformity were not warmly taken up, and failed.
