A New Voyage Round the World, Volume 1, records the 1823-1826 circumnavigation commanded by Otto von Kotzebue (1787-1846), the Baltic German officer of the Imperial Russian Navy and son of the dramatist August von Kotzebue. Sailing the Predpriyatie, Kotzebue revisited the Pacific grounds of his earlier Rurik expedition, and this opening volume carries the ship from Kronstadt around Cape Horn to Tahiti, the Society Islands, and the Russian settlements of the North Pacific. His frank notes on missionary rule in Tahiti stirred controversy when the English translation appeared in 1830. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
