About this book

A Newly Discovered System of Electrical Medication is by Daniel Clark. The preface says that in the summer of 1866 the author, moved by the repeated and earnest solicitation of his Medical Classes, prepared and printed a small pamphlet entitled Practical Principles of Medical Electricity. The preface says the pamphlet and the present work were both designed as a Hand-Book to assist the memory of those who have taken a regular course of Lectures.

The author writes that he has no sympathy with those who assert that medicines of the apothecary never effect the cure of disease, and asks that it not be supposed that he assumes a belligerent attitude towards the members of the medical profession. A passage on a case of acute enteritis, inflammation of the intestines, says that while treating the abdomen with the positive pole one would not wish to increase the inflammation in the lower parts by using equal cords. Under OLD ULCERS, the directions say to take the A D current and to treat the sore with N. P. while P. P. is held upon some healthy part, for five to ten minutes, three or four times a week.
