About this book
Pharmacologia by John Ayrton Paris includes a Medicinal Dynameter and Scale of Equivalents, engraved for the Second American Edition of Paris’s Pharmacologia. The explanation says the instrument will shew on bare inspection the quantity of active matter contained in any given weight or measure of any Officinal compound, and the dose of any preparation equivalent in strength to any given quantity of any other of the same class.
The text lists prescriptions, one marked In Uterine Hemorrhage, and an entry on medicinal prescription, its perfection defined in three words. The text mentions that certain medicinal substances enter the circulation. The text says Squill, Calomel and Digitalis are each powerful Diuretics but cannot be considered similar remedies, since Digitalis will entirely fail in its effects in the very cases that Calomel and Squill succeed.
