Andrew Graham-Yooll’s book “A State of Fear” Memories of Argentina’s Nightmare” provides a first-hand narrative of the “Dirty War” that the military dictatorship in Argentina fought from 1976 to 1983. Graham-Yooll worked as the Buenos Aires Herald’s news editor for ten years, during which time she constantly worried about “disappearing.” He attended guerilla conferences, assisted families of the missing, and even had tea with criminals. The book offers an unsettling look into what it was like to be always afraid.
