About this book

Septimus Sisson, Professor of Comparative Anatomy in Ohio State University, wrote this textbook on the structure of the principal domestic animals. The title page lists 588 illustrations, many in colors, and gives a reprint date of July 1911. A preface says that a modern and well-illustrated book on the subject had long been missing, and mentions the study of frozen sections.

The text is detailed description. One passage covers the diaphragm of the horse, with a numbered figure of its abdominal surface and the three openings through it: the hiatus aorticus, the hiatus oesophageus and the foramen venae cavae, each with its position and what passes through it. Another passage covers the nerve fibres of the spinal cord, including the fasciculus gracilis. A further passage describes the incisive bone of the skull and the large socket for the canine tooth. The book is dedicated to Katherine Oldham Sisson.
