About this book
The work is a treatise on the entozoa of humans and animals, taking parasites in both as its subject. The account of Distoma lanceolatum reports at least three observed instances of this small fluke occurring in the human body. The reported cases include Bucholz finding considerable numbers in the gall bladder at Weimar and Chabert expelling a large number from the intestines of a girl in France.
The discussion of Gyrodactyles describes viviparous worms producing a single embryo at a time, with another already partly developed before the first is expelled. The explanation identifies an embryo rather than a bud as the interpretation believed to be correct for the phenomenon under discussion.
