About this book
A Voyage Round the World in the Years MDCCXL, I, II, III, IV recounts a sea expedition and includes an introduction describing ships and their armament. The introduction describes ships built mostly of oak, painted yellow outside with a blue stripe around the upper works, and red inside. The account of Anson's preparations says that before sailing he obtained manuscript accounts of Spanish settlements on the coasts of Chili, Peru, and Mexico.
The narrative describes a man whose excessive dose of brandy left him asleep until an approaching fire was near enough to scorch him. The frightened man pushes through smoke and reaches the beach, entering the water as far as he dares because he cannot swim.
