About this book
Agricultural Prices is a book by Henry A. Wallace. The preface says the purpose of the book is to promote a better understanding of the factors which influence prices of farm products and stimulate an intelligent interest in statistical economics.
The book includes tables of figures, among them oat receipts at Chicago, given in bushels with 000 omitted. The text gives an example: in May of 1918 the index price of corn in Chicago was $1.25, whereas the actual price was $1.60. The text says the actual price was above the index price partly because of a poor quality corn crop in 1917, but particularly because of an unprecedented demand for breadstuffs. The text says that, strange to say, consumers kicked vigorously against milk prices, but had nothing to say about corn prices.
