About this book
Aims and Aids for Girls and Young Women is a book by Rev. G. S. Weaver on the various duties of life, including physical, intellectual, and moral development. The full title also names self-culture, improvement, dress, beauty, fashion, employment, education, the home relations, their duties to young men, marriage, womanhood and happiness. The preface says that the author's interest in woman and our common humanity is the only apology for writing the book.
The author imagines speaking to Girlhood in its wide realm of beauty and promise all over the world, and would say that its first work is to form a fitting character with which to pass through life and do the great work of woman. The text says there is much in starting right, and that a stumble in the start often defeats the race. The text says that thousands of women have no Employment, and live through life in a state of abject dependence, and asks why Employment should not develop women, since it requires Employment to develop men.
