About this book
The account of the Irish Church describes a National Church established in close conjunction with the State, forming an integral part of it. The discussion of missionary activity names North Britain and Germany among the places where Irish clergy made the Gospel known to still pagan inhabitants.
The description of an island encounter presents demon smiths forging glowing metal, with one smith throwing the mass after the curach. The account of another island describes a huge mill whose miller says that his grist consists of everything begrudged on earth. The discussion describes the demon miller as rather a favourite symbol in Irish legend, extending beyond compositions presented as religious.
