About this book
An Unsocial Socialist, credited to Bernard Shaw, is divided into numbered chapters followed by an appendix. The first chapter has a sensible looking woman of forty come out through an oaken door to a broad landing on the first floor of an old English country-house in the dusk of an October evening. Mrs. Trefusis watches through her tears as her mother reads a letter that carries the words Adieu, my last love, above the signature Sidney Trefusis.
Mrs. Jansenius asks, “Do you think he is quite sane, Henrietta?” and says, “You can do nothing until we hear from the solicitor.” Henrietta sobs, “He pretended that he was never happy out of my presence,” and cries, “Everybody hates me!”
