About this book
Anna Christie is a play in four acts by Eugene O'Neill. The cast includes Chris Christopherson, captain of the barge, Anna Christopherson, Chris's daughter, and Mat Burke, a stoker. The scenes include a saloon near the waterfront in New York City and the barge Simeon Winthrop at anchor in the harbor of Provincetown, Mass.
A man in a suit of shore clothes, with a faded cap over his mop of grizzled, blond hair, has a face that beams with a too-blissful happiness, and he has evidently been drinking. Anna sits in the rocking-chair by the table with a newspaper in her hands, not reading but staring straight in front of her, and Chris wanders about the room, casting quick, uneasy side glances at her face.
