About this book

In Beyond the Horizon, ANDREW says Uncle says the trip means three years away, ROBERT answers that it is about that, and ANDREW calls it a long time. ROBERT tells Andy that it is just as hard for him, that he hates to leave the old folks, and, pointing to the horizon, that there is something calling him.

BEN slouches in from the kitchen and reports that the mowin’ machine’s bust, and ROBERT answers that the man fixed it only last week. The stage directions describe BEN as a hulking, awkward young fellow with a heavy, stupid face and shifty, cunning eyes. RUTH asks whether he is out of his mind now, and ANDREW answers that he may be a little delirious and that the fever would do that.
