About this book
Aria da Capo by Edna St. Vincent Millay is a play in one act whose opening stage is set for a Harlequinade. The opening stage directions place Pierrot and Columbine at opposite ends of a banquet table, dressed in lilac and pink respectively. Pierrot announces that he has suddenly become a painter, describing orange bull’s-eyes, green pin-wheels, and a magenta jelly-roll.
Corydon begins strangling Thyrsis while drinking from a bowl that Thyrsis holds, and Thyrsis protests that the encounter is only a game. The production suggestions describe Columbine carrying food and a wine-glass on her first exit to help clear the table.
