About this book
Australia Twice Traversed, by Ernest Giles, presents a narrative compiled from the journals of five exploring expeditions into and through Central South Australia and Western Australia from 1872 to 1876. The account of Gregory's expedition says the Government of New South Wales sent him in 1858 to search again for Leichhardt, who had been missing ten years. The expedition account says the search achieved little or nothing toward its main object, discovering only one or two trees marked L.
The description of a little glen records small stone mounds at even distances, cleared paths between the stones, and a large bare flat rock at the centre of the heaps. The narrator expresses delight at moving again on the 11th of June and leaving behind a place he calls poisonous together with a fifteen-foot shaft.
