George Worley's handbook describes the priory church of St. Bartholomew-the-Great at Smithfield. Its four chapters cover the history of the foundation, the exterior of the church, the interior, and the church of St. Bartholomew-the-Less with the hospital. Appendices list the priory seals, the priors and rectors, an inventory of vestments and the organ. The preface thanks the Rev. W. F. G. Sandwith, Rector of the church, and the lay custodians for the facilities they gave the author.
The index records Rahere's early life, his conversion, his vision and vow, and the charter of privileges granted. A passage on the transepts says the restoration removed an intercepting wall and kept a bay of the old Norman triforium, with blue Bath stone used inside and Portland stone with flints outside. The forty-two illustrations include the founder's tomb, the Lady Chapel, the crypt and the remaining bays of the cloister.
