About this book
Birds of the Indian Hills by Douglas Dewar carries a note saying that considerable portions of the book have already appeared as articles in one or other of a list of newspapers or periodicals. The text invites readers to take the path from Kathgodam, the terminus of the Rohilkhand and Kumaun railway, to the Pindari glacier. The text says a fairly steep ascent of 5 miles through well-wooded country brings the traveller to Bhim Tal, a lake 4500 feet above the level of the sea.
The text says the Gagar range is well wooded, the majority of its trees being rhododendrons that display a mass of crimson colouring when they put forth their blossoms in spring. The text describes Liothrix lutea, which Oates calls the red-billed liothrix, as a bird about the size of a sparrow whose upper plumage is mostly olive green with a yellow forehead. A list pairs Kali-pholia with the white-capped redstart and Kaljit with the Himalayan whistling-thrush.
