About this book
The title page announces an introduction together with a separately credited chapter on rowing at Eton. The historical discussion turns to tomb paintings in Egypt for illustrations of boats and ships, some dated as early as 3000 b.c. if the learned authorities are trusted. The account regards rowing as already established as employment in ancient Egypt, while leaving open whether rowing was an amusement.
The training advice generally recommends no more than ten or eleven minutes of hard, uninterrupted racing within three days of a race. The training discussion warns that strokes and coaches do a crew much harm when prematurely jealous of practice times.
