About this book
British Airships, Past, Present, and Future is by George Whale, who is listed as Late Major, R.A.F. The contents list names chapters headed, among others, Early Airships and Their Development to the Present Day, British Army Airships and The Future of Airships. The introduction says that lighter-than-air craft consist of three distinct types: Airships, which are by far the most important, Free Balloons, and Kite Balloons.
The text says that a second system is that of the Astra-Torres, whose envelope is trilobe in section, with internal rigging, which enables the car to be slung very close up to the envelope. The text says that six ballonets are fitted, of which the total capacity is 128,000 cubic feet, equivalent to 35.5 per cent of the total volume. The text says that the airship, in the ordinary way when a voyage is over, will pick up its moorings as does the big steamer, and land its passengers and cargo.
