About this book
Burmah and the Burmese is a book by Kenneth R. H. Mackenzie. A quoted account of a fort says it is impossible to conceive a more striking picture of fallen grandeur and the desolating hand of war than the inside of these walls displays. The text says that about the time when Symes visited Pegu, active exertions were being made to conciliate the Peguers, or Taliens, as the Burmans always called them.
The text gives an article saying that, for the expenses of the war, His Majesty the King of Ava agrees to pay the sum of one crore of rupees. Article VII says that accredited Ministers, retaining an escort or safeguard of fifty men, from each, shall reside at the Durbar of the other. The text says Burman domestic architecture presents many similarities with that of Polynesia, except in the temples.
