About this book
Calvin Wilson Mateer, forty-five years a missionary in Shantung, China, is a biography published September, 1911. The contents list names, among others, the chapters The Old Home and The Making of the Man.
Mateer is described as having a good strong physique and simple tastes. Mateer repeatedly took trips when all the provision he made for eating was a spoon and a saltcellar. On Bible translation, the text says that accuracy of expression, because of the very nature of the Bible, is of the first importance in a version. Dr. Mateer used frequently to say: “In the thirty-five years of our married life, there never was a single jar.”
