About this book
Chats on Postage Stamps is a book by Frederick John Melville. A caption describes an envelope bearing the rare stamp issued in 1846 by the Postmaster of Millbury, Massachusetts. Another caption describes an exceptional block of twenty unused One Penny black stamps, lettered V R in the upper corners for official use.
The text says that the American field is a particularly fine one and offers the most virgin philatelic soil. The text says that Mexico and South and Central America, Cuba, Hayti and the Dominican Republic are comparatively fresh soil. A list of works includes, among others, an entry under Turkey for Croissant-Toughra (Armoiries de l'Empire Ottoman) by F. Mongeri, Bruxelles, 1887.
