Cousin Henry is a tightly drawn later novel by Anthony Trollope, published in 1879 and one of his finest studies of a guilty conscience. An old Welsh squire dies leaving his estate, against his own better feeling, to a nephew he does not much like, the weak and nervous Henry Jones, while his true wishes lie hidden in a later will that Henry alone knows about. Torn between greed and fear, Henry can neither destroy the document nor reveal it, and Trollope follows his slow torment with unsparing psychological insight as the whole county watches and suspects him.
