Cranford

Elizabeth Gaskell’s affectionate portrait of a small English town is narrated through the genteel, mostly elderly women who govern its little society with quiet dignity and gentle comedy. Across linked episodes of tea parties, small economies, and unexpected losses, Gaskell finds real warmth and pathos in ordinary lives. ‘Cranford’ endures as one of the most charming studies of provincial England.
