Crome Yellow is Aldous Huxley’s first novel, published in 1921, a witty comedy of ideas set during a house party at a country estate. The shy young poet Denis Stone arrives hoping to impress the woman he loves and instead finds himself among a gallery of eccentrics who talk endlessly and brilliantly about art, science, religion, and the future while very little actually happens. Behind the sparkling conversation Huxley gently mocks the intellectual fashions of his day and the wide gulf between grand ideas and ordinary human longing.
