About this book
The collection offers curious inscriptions copied from gravestones, with a preface distinguishing the undertaking from a compilation drawn from previously published works. The compiler describes the volume as the result of collecting curious epitaphs over many years. The preface says that a bibliography of epitaphs has been included.
An inscription commemorates Thomas Worrall as parish clerk of Wolverley for forty-seven years and records his death at the age of seventy-six. The accompanying statement says a few parishioners erected the tombstone in testimony of the deceased's worth. An epitaph for the comedian Thomas Jackson describes the world as a great theatre in which nature prompted him to excel in many comic characters.
