About this book
De La Salle Fifth Reader is by the Brothers of the Christian Schools. The contents list a Hymn to St. La Salle, Columbus at the Convent by J.T. Trowbridge, The Little Fern, The Brook Song and The Harp That Once Through Tara's Halls. A note to teachers says that one poem well read, well studied, is worth more than a volume carelessly read over.
A note on reviews says that, as the memory of children, though prompt, is weak, frequent reviews should be held. One passage speaks to boys and girls about how fast and how steadily the present time is slipping away. A set of questions asks what is meant by the Congress of the U.S. and which was the most notable sea fight of Commodore John Paul Jones.
