About this book
Christmas Entertainments by Alice Maude Kellogg contains fancy drills, acrostics, motion songs, tableaux, short plays and recitations in costume for children of five to fifteen years. The contents list, among others, Time for Santa Claus and Santa Claus is Coming under the heading New Songs to Old Tunes.
A stage direction has boys come marching in single file, shovels over shoulder, singing to the tune See the Farmer in the Field, and the first verse begins We are the jolly Snow Brigade. Christmas Stockings is credited to A.S. Webber, and its directions call for six small girls and boys for speaking, with any even number of larger girls for singing. A scene has Brownies scream and be about to run off as a Princess enters with a pepper-pot. The Brownies say Oh, no, no, no! Pray, do not pepper us!
