Diamond Grill

The semi-fictional memoir “Diamond Grill” by Fred Wah describes the author’s upbringing in Nelson British Columbia, in his father’s restaurant the Diamond Grill through a combination of prose and poetry. The book explores the challenges of being of mixed origin in the 1950s and covers themes of race, culture, family, and belonging. It gives a realistic account of the author’s conflicting Chinese and Canadian identities.
