About this book

Down with the Cities! by Tadashi Nakashima is a translation from the Japanese of "Toshi wo Horobose," first serialized in the periodical Kankyo Hakai. A note says Nakashima, born 1920, is a self-sufficient farmer in the hill country of Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Chapter II, The Evils of the City, says the city is, in actuality, the very root of the evils that threaten the future of humanity and the Earth.

The text says that we, the city dwellers first, will in time be exterminated by the city's poisons. An entry on money defines it as the means by which domination and exploitation can be most easily and effectively achieved. Under a heading that asks whether stopping the food supply is possible, the text says that even if we do not get rid of money, we can get rid of the cities by merely shutting off the food supply. The text says that money is the life blood of the city and that banishing it will require an earthshaking occurrence.
