About this book
Engraving: Its Origin, Processes, and History is by Henri Delaborde. The editorial note says Mr. William Walker has contributed an account of the rise and progress of the British School of Engraving. The editorial note also says the present volume is a translation of the work La Gravure.
The text says the discovery of printing with type is so intimately connected with the printing of engravings, and the practical methods in both are so much alike, that it is necessary to mention a few facts and compare a few dates. The text says it is scarcely possible not to mention, side by side with historical and genre engraving, the countless illustrations of novels, fables, songs, and publications of every description. A list of engravers gives entries such as Jeens, Charles Henry, b. 1817; d. 1879, with the method Stipple and miniature book illustrations.
