About this book

“Everything Is Illuminated” is the first novel by American writer Jonathan Safran Foer. The book received critical acclaim for its inventive writing and structure, which intertwines two narratives: one is a fictionalized account of the Jewish shtetl of Trochenbrod in Poland before the Holocaust, and the other is a semi-autobiographical story of Foer’s journey to Ukraine in search of his family’s past.

About the author

Jonathan Safran Foer

Foer travelled to Ukraine at nineteen carrying a photograph, looking for the woman who had saved his grandfather during the war, found nothing at all, and turned that failure into Everything Is Illuminated. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close followed, built around a boy whose father died on 11 September.
