About this book

Factfulness, published in 2018, is the book by Hans Rosling, written with Ola Rosling and Anna Rosling Rönnlund, that argues most people hold a more negative view of the world than the facts support. Rosling was a Swedish physician, a professor of international health at the Karolinska Institute and a co-founder of the Gapminder Foundation, and he spent years collecting data on health, income and population.

He identifies ten instincts, such as the urge to divide the world into two camps or to assume that things are getting worse, that distort how we see the facts, and he explains how to correct for each. The book is a call to base one's view of the world on data. Rosling died in 2017, before it was published.

Worked as a physician in rural Mozambique in the early eighties, where he identified an outbreak of a paralytic disease later traced to improperly processed cassava. Factfulness is built on a quiz he gave to audiences for years, on child mortality, girls' education, vaccination rates, and the finding that the public consistently scored worse than chance.
