About this book
Fern Leaves from Fanny's Port-folio, Second Series, comes with original designs by Fred. M. Coffin. A scene shows Master Grey saying to Miss Betsey that, if her lesson is not learned to-morrow morning, he will punish her in the presence of the whole school. The text says the nine o'clock bell summoned again the Frog-town pupils to the District School.
A character named Helen asks whether a sick child will be trusted with her, and says she has it in her power to make her so much more comfortable. A piece headed Apollo Hyacinth quotes Donohue saying there is no better test of moral excellence than the keenness of one's sense, and the depth of one's love, of all that is beautiful, and the writer says they do not endorse that sentiment.
